What Sets Us Apart? read on to see the four things that we feel make us the unique and friendly studio you may have been looking for.

Surrounded by leafy green plants, the treatment table at the Radiant: Massage Therapy and Integrative Wellness cushions visitors as the therapist combines stress-relieving bodywork with fundamental meditative techniques. This holistic emphasis stems from the owner's extensive massage training and his adherence to harmonizing Zen and Shambhala Buddhist philosophies. During massages, the therapist encourages clients to focus on their breathing while he employs Swedish and Deep-Tissue modalities to knead organic oils and lotions into musculature... promoting circulation or coaxing out muscle-bound toxins. --Groupon

Offerings and Rates

HOME

90-minute or longer sessions are recommended for all Bodywork types. this is because the first hour of a session can often be seen as prepping the body for "deeper" work. consider lengthening your session time if you regularly receive work, or trying a 90-minute session if you've never had the opportunity. you will feel the difference!

Massage Therapy
we specialize in Swedish Massage and Deep-Tissue with an emphasis on Breathwork. these combined techniques provide relaxation, stress-relief, increased circulation, increased flexibility, and detoxification of the blood and muscle fibers.
based on Yogic theory, our practice also incorporates elements of Breathwork, maximizing the effectiveness of any technique and bringing you into a deeper state of grounded relaxation.

Specialty Massage
having a specific issue? problem areas are always discussed in the session interview, however, consider adding a Botanical Enhancement to maximize the beneficial effects of your session (just keep scrolling to read our Aromatherapy section). the offerings directly below are two examples of some of our more popular Specialty treatments.
Office Body
one of our new Botanical Enhancement treatments, this treatment employs our Destress blend along with a bodywork sequence to open and lift the chest, soften the hands and wrists, relieve tension in the head, and counteract internal rotation of the shoulders.
LOVE Massage (limited-time offer)
Open the heart. Connect. Heal. Radiate. introducing the LOVE Massage, where techniques create space and opening in the chest and heart-center. a custom blend of warm Organic Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, and Rose further enhance the effects of this treatment, putting you more deeply in touch with the passion, courage, and warmth that reside inside-- whether you have a partner or not. this Massage is suitable for men or women, and, as always, therapeutic in nature. makes a great gift.

Structural Integration (S.I.)
working with the skeletal system and myofascial tissue, this modality seeks to bring about more "functional ease" through better integration of the body as a whole. observing a clients' posture and walk helps to create an customized program which results in greater expression of current patterns and increased availability of new movement patterns. S.I. differs from Massage as it works with the connective tissue between muscles, as opposed to the muscles themselves. it also has less of a therapeutic feel in favour of a more clinical environment. for best results, sessions are usually done in a series of 5 to 10 sessions. those with chronic pain and/or postural issues, as well as athletes or those in body-centered professions may particularly benefit.

Healing Arts
as mentioned in What Sets Us Apart, at the Radiant our unique Healing and Energy Work is integrated into every Massage or Bodywork session. for those wishing to explore the more esoteric elements of Healing, i offer a modality i call "Healing Arts," where the the client and practitioner's intention are combined with various eastern and western spiritual and awareness disciplines to reconnect with our basic sanity and health. it is predicated on the eastern perspective that our nature is inherently awake.
Sound Healing, Vibrational Transfer, Focused Heat, Mantra, Guided Visualization, Body-Mind Centering, Compassion and Gratitude practices, and Sacred Language are all techniques which may be integrated into the bodywork. being an intuitive practice, what's most essential is an open mind, a sense of humour, and if this would be your first time, a willingness to try! 90-minutes recommended.

Couple's Massage
you can now choose to share a relaxing, rejuvenating, premier Massage experience with that special someone by your side-- whether a partner, spouse, best friend, or even a parent! come in for a totally unique way to spend your time together; leave feeling more connected and with renewed perspective. available at the East Williamsburg location and for Out-Calls only.

Complimentary Meditation Instruction
we offer complimentary meditation instruction in Shamatha ("Calm Abiding") practice. for those with a foundational practice, Loving-Kindness teachings may be explored.

Aromatherapy & Botanical Enhancements
custom blends of organic and all-natural essential oils are now available to increase the beneficial effects of Massage and Healing. so much more than nice-smelling stuff that makes you feel good --though that's important too!-- our plant oils help combat a wide variety of physical and mental ailments. our infusions are combined with massage techniques specifically tailored to address problem areas.
please request your blend when booking your appointment so that we may have the materials prepared for your session.

here is a list of our specific blends:
  • Anti-Age Blend
  • Anti-Allergy Blend
  • Calming Blend
  • Anti-Cellulite Blend
  • Circulatory Blend
  • Clarity Blend
  • Destress Blend

  • Fresh Feet Blend
  • Grounding Blend

Changchup has a gift...
          --Kelly, Brooklyn

It's not my style to promote or advocate anything or anyone, but a truly good find is worth sharing, especially when it is of benefit to all. I'm a very athletic person and my body gets a bit bruised and misaligned from time to time. As a believer in wellness and finding balance through energy work, it's been part of my regiment to have massages as often as my budget allows. I've had many great massages in a variety of methods, in many countries by some wonderful and not so wonderful people. Changchup, my massage therapist for the past 1 1/2 years continues to exceed my expectations. His caring manner, coupled with his insightfulness is what sets him apart from most. During each appointment, we have a short chat to give him a sense of what's going on within my body. Thereafter, I'm left to settle down onto massage table and collect my thoughts as chakra opening music plays softly in the background. Within minutes, I'm relaxed and start to connect with the inner self. Changchup's hands are those of a master who intuitively knows how much pressure is needed and what parts of my body require the most work. I leave feeling as good as new. For me, a session is equivalent to getting all of the benefits of Yoga without having to move a muscle.
          --Uzal, Manhattan

I am always inspired by people who are passionate about what they do, who take an ordinary occasion and turn it into an art form. Not only was the massage I had with Changchup one of the finest I've experienced but I was way surprised to find that the experience resonated and elevated on a few different levels. Changchup glows with confidence and has an innate ability to channel a healing, compassionate and intuitive energy into his touch. Added to that, he has a great dedication to his own body and a strength that enables him to work intensely when necessary, which results in an effortless transition between swedish and deep tissue work. I feel really lucky to have found him. He's a true professional, easy to talk to, and an inspiring individual. Highly recommend.
          --Hope, Brooklyn

Even though he has since moved to the east coast, Changchup continues to be my massage therapist whenever I am in New York City. I'm thrilled that he has just opened a studio in Union Square as I now have two options for where I can see him (his other office is in East Williamsburg, not far from Manhattan). I usually stay in Flatiron, Gramercy, or Chelsea, so it's a great location as it's very accessible from any of those neighborhoods. His Brooklyn location is just a few stops from Union Square, so that is also very convenient. As for the massage itself, I'm continually amazed by Changchup's deep sense of intuition. He has a very broad skill set (various types of massage, structural integration, and healing work), so each session has a different feeling, but it always seems to be just what I'm needing at the moment. His work really is healing. It stands out amongst other massages that I've had. And he's also a very caring, and amazing individual-- I can feel that through his hands and his voice as he is working. He truly has a gift, and is a master at what he does.
          --Cida, San Francisco

From the moment Changchup opened the door to his studio, I immediately felt relaxed and at ease. The greenery and gentle music created a serene, calming atmosphere. Changchup was very thorough when asking me about my body, where I felt pain and what my injury history was. Then the massage. Wow. It was an hour of bliss. Changchup's intuition was spot on as he worked through knots and kinks that I didn't even know I had, and made the ones I did know about disappear. I melted into the table! I would recommend Changchup to friends, family, to anyone needing relief, relaxation, or an hour of indulgence. He is without a doubt the most thorough and knowledgeable practitioner I've encountered, and his professionalism is incomparable.
          --Courtney, Hoboken

The space is very welcoming and the positive energy it exudes made me feel like it was the kind of place to not only relax but also find healing. Changchup's style is delightfully tailor-made to everyone. We discussed how I was feeling, where I was at, and what my expectations were and we agreed that he would use his own approach to see where he felt and thought I needed work. The combination of deep tissue work with a pinch of meditation in the session really suited me well. I felt that I was in safe and healing hands. I really felt so much better not only as I walked out of the studio but also for the rest of the week. This was the start of a long and much needed healing process for me and I am very grateful for the session!
          --Kirsty, Brooklyn

Changchup is a magician.
          --Jeff, Brooklyn

I feel alive again!
          --Ricchi, Brooklyn

I feel like a new person.
          --Jamel, Jersey City

I agree with many of the reviews on your site. As a new beneficiary, I appreciate what you do for people with your work and look forward to the next session and working with you more.
          --Joseph, Manhattan

Usually try to steer clear of hyperbole, but probably the best massage I've ever had. He really manages to make a personal connection and intuit your stress points, what you need from the massage- even why you're feeling the way you are. It was a meditative experience. Despite all the stress factors in my life and my mind, I found myself able to actually relax with his subtle encouragement. His studio is charming too.
          --Steven, Brooklyn

It was amazing. I suffer from chronic back pain and I was recently told that I have 3 torn & 4 bulging dics. I usually get a massage 3-4 times a month, never has any of my massage therapists been so attentive. Changchup was very professional & very attentive. He incorporated the massage techniques with a little bit of prana yoga. I felt so relaxed after this experience. This man has healing hands!
          --Carly, Brooklyn

I just experienced another 90-min deep tissue massage from Changchup...and it was hands-down the best massage of my life. Radiant is right; Changchup is extraordinary. With clear, calm communication, Changchup creates a safe and relaxing space; he radiates professional ease and genuine warmth. His technique is accurate, innovative and thorough. His touch is as good as it gets. I can't recommend him highly enough!
          --Avery, San Francisco

thank you for the massage session....I feel like I owe you still. I was affected for the rest of the day....I reckon from the toxin release...and from the vibration state you helped be get to. I truly enjoyed the massage and will be back for more...  and I'd love to set up some time to go over meditation techniques. Peace and Love,
          --Andy, Brooklyn

This was a very thorough experience. The atmosphere was very calming and inviting, as well as Changchup's demeanor and communication. He is very present, highly professional, and it felt very genuine. The massage itself had a very attentive feel to it, there were no empty gaps...not sure how else to describe it. Being a martial artist, training seriously, i am looking forward to this relaxing experience again when i need it. I highly recommend you give him a try, you wont regret it.
          --Miles, Brooklyn

i want to start off with amazing! I had a stressful day. My lower back was aching and tense. This was a fantastic experience. I felt renewed after my session with Changchup. I have lower back pain, from an injury and was worried about pain. Changchup applied the right amount of pressure to my lower back. The massage, made my lower back feel great. I was so relaxed, i dozed off for a few minutes. It was an amazing stress reliever. I highly recommend Changchup to anyone that needs a massage. Changchup's professionalism and technique really put me at ease. I was rejuvenated at the end of my session. This was my first experience with Changchup and it certainly won't be my last!
          --Matthew, Manhattan

Definitely the best, most effective massage I've ever had. As a dancer here in NYC, my body and muscles go through a lot of stress, but after only a 45 min session Changchup had me feeling good as knew. I felt taller and more elongated, and the tension in my back and lower spine virtually disappeared. The cross-fiber technique is INCREDIBLE. sooo good. It really loosens up the hamstrings. And the ambiance was great too. wonderful lighting. wonderful music. The best part is that Changchup really listened to what I had to say about MY body. I told him the parts that I felt needed the most focus and attention and he did just that ... focus and attended to those muscle areas. I will definitely book more sessions in the future, and I highly recommend anyone else do the same [smile].
          --Valton, Manhattan

Changchup is amazing, hospitality is more than just a word, his actions from the moment I stepped into his studio, to the moment I left I felt at home. The massage was just what I was looking for, included was much needed breathing exercises and stretching my limbs.  His professional table was very comfortable, did I mention very easy on the eyes is a big plus too, can't wait to return again...the session ended with some delicious tea. Thank you Changchup.
          --Bryan, Manhattan

Meet the Founder

Massage Therapist and Founder of the Radiant, Changchup Shönnu, was born in Brasil and raised between his native Minas Gerais and San Francisco, California. his interest in Massage and Healing came to light at an early age, giving massages to family members and friends as a young boy. his love of the body flowed into a passion for dance, where, as a teen, he studied under several accomplished teachers in the Bay area. this led him to the rare opportunity of enrolling at the Instituto Superior de Arte – Havana (Cuba’s National Conservatory).
keen to pursue his concurrent passion for spiritual discipline, he transferred to Naropa University, a Buddhist-inspired institute founded by luminous Tibetan teacher, Chögyam Trungpa. at Naropa, Changchup deepened his study of various forms of meditation and contemplative studies. during this time, he had his first experience with somatic intelligence through the work of Body-Mind Centering. Changchup experienced first-hand the life-changing and healing power of an integrated somatic awareness. he was inspired to share this realization through his work.
some years later, Changchup completed his Massage Certification at the head of his class. he is now an Assistant Instructor at one of the country's top Massage schools, where he also regularly takes continuing-education courses in order deepen his own practice and share his knowledge with others. a devotee of various Meditation-Awareness disciplines, he feels his ability to transmute positivity, healing, radiance, and joy is intimately linked to his own realization. he sees his work at the Radiant as a vocation: an opportunity to bring healing into others' lives on a physical and energetic level, and help them to reconnect with their inherent dignity, strength, sanity, and radiance.

when not in the Studio, Changchup pursues a rigorous weight-lifting regimen, as well as careers as a singer-songwriter, actor, and model. he enjoys travel, camping, film, and connecting with nature.

we invite you to the Radiant for a session with Changchup.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

HOME

what’s the best way to book a session?
send an email (youareradiant@gmail.com) with a few options of days and times that work for you. i will get back to you shortly, usually within 12 hours.

can i book a last-minute session? do you take walk-ins?
the Radiant does not take walk-ins, however, a last-minute session is just a fone call away! (303.652.7323) if there is no answer, be sure to leave a message, or better yet, text is the best way to book a last-minute appointment. for anything more than 24-hours, however, feel free to send an email with a few days and times that work for you.

i’ve called a few times and there is no answer. what should i do?
if there is no answer it’s probably because i am in session. email is the best way to reach the studio for bookings or any questions. if fone is your preferred method of contact, however, please be sure to leave a message! better yet, send a text, especially for last-minute bookings.

is there anything i should do to prepare for my session?
not really, just bring your body! that said, it’s a good idea to give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the studio so that you can arrive in a relaxed and centered space. if not, a portion of your Massage might be spent relaxing you out of the stress of arriving late.
if you sweat a lot or work a highly exertive job it might be a good idea to take a shower in the hours before your session, but don’t sweat it if you can’t!
lastly, it’s a good idea to not eat any large meals within two hours of your session.

what if i don’t like something about my Massage?

i make an effort to say this before every session, but if there is anything you’re not enjoying about your Massage or that could make you feel more comfortable, please say it! this time is for you, therefore, if anything is bothering you, please don’t feel shy to let me know. this can include virtually anything but especially: if the pressure of the technique is too intense or not enough, if you are too hot or too cold on the table, if the music is too loud or soft, if the music bothers or distracts you and you’d like something different, or even if you like a certain technique that i'm doing and you want me to stay there for a while cause it feels so good!
as a therapist, i do my best with my training, technique, and intuition to give you the best session possible. you, however, will always be the authority on what feels right for you, so please let me know! i also send check-in emails a few days after appointments, so if you neglected to share something during a session, feel free to share it there so that i can know for our next Massage.

will my Massage Therapist be male or female?
as the Radiant is a boutique studio, i am currently the Therapist for all appointments. if your preference is for a female but you are open to trying something new please feel free to share that with me. i would be happy to discuss ways in which you might feel more at ease, before, during, and after your session. also, i am happy to offer references from other men and women if you would like to speak with one of my clients directly about their experience.

what’s the difference between a Masseur and a Masseuse?
a Masseur is male and a Masseuse is female.

what if i’m ringing the doorbell at 17 wilson avenue and there’s no response?
that’s cause there is no bell! as mentioned in the confirmation email you’ll receive after booking a session, please call the studio (303.652.7323) to be let in to the building. if there is no answer it’s probably because i am in session. feel free to leave a voicemail or better yet, send a text. i'll be right down!

can i and my friend(s) get a Massage at the same time?
as the Radiant is a boutique studio, there is only space for one client at a time. though there are no simultaneous sessions, you and friends are welcome to book consecutive sessions. please be aware that there is no waiting room at the Radiant, however, there are a number of charming cafés just a short walk from the studio which i’m happy to direct you to.

do i choose between Swedish or Deep-Tissue Massage?
my practice is based on a fusion of swedish and deep-tissue techniques. i find that using these techniques complementarily both relaxes as well as targets problem areas more directly. if you would like an emphasis on one of these techniques, please let me know before your session begins so that i can do that for you!

what do i wear during the Massage? anything?

Massage is traditionally received in the nude as this allows for greater efficiency in movement (especially gliding techniques) on the part of the Masseur. you should, however, wear whatever will make you feel most comfortable during your session. that can mean anything from keeping all of your clothes on to being completely nude.

will i be seen nude during my session?
no. a top sheet or blanket is always used during sessions. this means that whatever part of the body i am working on will be uncovered, and everything else will remain under the sheet. as body parts or regions are usually worked one at a time, this means that most of your body will always be covered.

should i be silent during the Massage? is it ok to sigh, groan, or make noise?
this is your experience, so you should feel free to do whatever feels natural to you! there is no mandate that you should be silent or totally still during your session. in fact, it can be helpful to me when a client makes some kind of noise during the session as it gives me a bigger clue into what they are experiencing at that moment. so, absolutely, if you feel a sense of relief, sigh, if something feel really good, you can hum-- or do whatever else comes naturally to you!

can i ask questions during my Massage?
absolutely! again, this is your experience, so you should feel free to do whatever feels natural to you! perhaps you’ve had a question about Massage that you’ve never asked; i’m happy to answer it as best i can. additionally, some people just feel more comfortable with some chatting during the session as it helps create a more relaxed environment for them. although i don’t encourage talking for the duration of a session, if some chatting helps you feel more at ease, by all means we can do that.

can i remain in the room during my spouse's or friend's session?
given we are trying to create a relaxing therapeutic environment, i do not normally allow others in the studio during sessions. the experience of being “watched” can be distracting both to the client and myself as the Massage Therapist. if there is an extenuating circumstance where a third party needs to be in the studio it should be communicated in advance. asides from that, it can be helpful to think of getting a Massage as akin to a visit to your doctor or other health care professional; it is a therapy and should be treated as such.

what do i do to schedule a free Meditation Session?
mention your interest when booking a session and we will find a time where you can arrive 30 minutes prior to your Massage for Meditation Instruction and practice.

do you give reminder calls?
no. it is my standard practice to send a reminder email with pertinent details once a session is booked. the session is, however, confirmed at the time of booking and the 24-hour cancellation policy will apply regardless of whether a confirmation email was sent. that said, as mentioned above, it is my standard practice to send a confirmation email and you will always get one provided there is not an extenuating circumstance.

is the Radiant wheelchair accessible?
unfortunately, no. the studio is located on the 2nd floor of 17 wilson avenue. out-calls are available, however, and i would be happy to come to you for a session.

what if my question wasn't answered here?
no problem! feel free to send an email to youareradiant@gmail.com with any further questions!
